Frequently Asked Questions - Weddings
Q 1. What should I consider in selecting a color?
-
White - Should not be worn to a wedding if the Bride is not in a
formal wedding gown.
-
Bridal Party Gowns - The color of the bridal party gowns and the
gowns of the mothers of the bride and groom should blend – not clash. The
mothers can choose the same shade or a coordinating color.
-
Ivory - Ivory is a color the mothers may wear if they so choose.
An all ivory wedding party is called a Champagne Wedding -- the Bridal
party as well as the two mothers wear Ivory.
-
Black is also a color mothers can wear. Some Bridal Parties do a
black and white wedding as well.
Q 2. What should I consider in selecting a style?
-
Black Tie Wedding - Does not mean you should only wear black. It
means it is a formal affair – you should wear a gown which can be of any
color.
-
Day Wedding - Most day weddings are not black tie or formal affairs.
A short cocktail dress or suit may be a good choice. Or, you could choose
a gown in a beautiful fabric with little or no beading – heavily beaded
and sequined gowns are not appropriate.
-
Garden Wedding - The first concern should be the weather so your
fabrics and colors should be very important. Choose light weight fabric,
soft colors or pastels, a gown that has a jacket and perhaps a shawl. Mothers
- this is a good time to wear a pretty hat that co-ordinates with your
outfit.
-
Mother of the Bride/Groom - If the bride's mother wears long the
groom's mother can wear long or tea length. The groom's mother should not
wear long if the bride's mother is wearing short. Also the bride's mother
should choose her color first.
Q 3. What are my responsibilities?
-
Bridal Shower - The Bridal Party usually give the shower for the
Bride. They are her maids-in-waiting to help her and help prepare for the
marriage. The bride's mother may choose to help with this party.
-
Rehearsal Party - The groom's mother usually gives the Rehearsal
Party inviting the bridal party and groom's parents.
